I would begin the lesson with the transition of G'Day Bruce!
I would introduce the beautiful poetry of Stella P. Bell who specifically had an interest in indigenous poetry.
I would read the poem aloud to the class.
Teaching Ideas:
- I would use the Australian Presentation Powerpoint as a stimulus for the lesson. I would probe the children as we watch the presentation:
- Then using the images I would question the children on the famous landmarks of Australia.
- I would then ask the children to compare life in Australia with life in Ireland, particularly zoning in on landmarks.
- I would then ask the children to compare leisure activities that we do in Ireland with the typical Australian pastimes.
- I will then ask the children about Uluru and if they notice how it changes colour.

- I would then ask the children to comment on the layout, techniques used within this piece of poetry.
- I would ask the children 'what do you all think the main theme is?' ' Is there any imagery within the poem?'
- The children could write their own individual verse about their own country/land.
