Strand: Early People and ancient Societies
Strand Units: Australasian/Aboriginal People
Resource Details: Youtube video of the aboriginal tribal dance, a didgeridoo, boomerang, images of aboriginal clothes,art,instruments and tools.
Teaching Ideas:
The children will examine the didgeridoo and explore the sound that it produces. The children will explore the different aboriginal clothing, artwork, instruments and tools through the use of images. The children will engage in a whole class discussion on what they predict the tools are used for? The children will then look and respond to the youtube clip of the Aboriginal tribal dance and will compare and contrast the cultural differences between the Irish and the Aborigines.

Teaching Ideas: The Class would have a discussion on what the children know about Aboriginal Beliefs.
We would have a discussion on what the children think the aborigines might believe in.
I would introduce the concept of dreamtime to the children explaining how the aborigines told stories about how they created the world through the use of storytelling and artwork. I would explain that these stories still survive today by using the audioboo as a stimulus for the lesson.
